1. Who We Are

GistAI ("we", "our", or "the app") is an Android application developed and operated by Sam Jin. If you have any questions about this policy, please contact us at livharve@gmail.com.

2. What Data We Collect

GistAI is designed to be private by default. We collect no personal information from users. Specifically:

• We do not require you to create an account or log in.
• We do not collect your name, email address, or any identifying information.
• We do not track your location.
• We do not use advertising SDKs or analytics libraries.
• We do not sell data to third parties.

3. Data Processed On-Device

All AI inference (summarization) is performed locally on your device using the on-device Gemma AI model. No video content, subtitles, or summaries are sent to our servers — because we don't have any.

Summary history is stored locally in a SQLite database on your device and is never transmitted anywhere.

4. Third-Party Services Used

To fetch subtitles and metadata for videos, GistAI communicates with the following third-party platforms. We only retrieve publicly available subtitle and transcript data and do not send any personal information to these services:

• YouTube — publicly available subtitle and video metadata retrieval. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
• Bilibili — publicly available subtitle retrieval. Subject to Bilibili's privacy policy.
• TED — publicly available transcript retrieval from TED.com. Subject to TED's privacy policy.
• Vimeo — publicly available subtitle retrieval. Subject to Vimeo's privacy policy.
• Google ML Kit (Translation) — on-device text translation. Processing happens locally. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.

These requests are made only when you explicitly submit a URL. No background requests are made to these services.

5. AI Model Download

On first launch, GistAI downloads the Gemma AI model (~2.4 GB) from our Cloudflare R2 storage. This download is a one-time transfer of the model file only — no personal data is sent. Standard HTTP connection metadata (IP address, request headers) is processed by Cloudflare in accordance with Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.

6. Text-to-Speech (TTS)

GistAI uses your device's built-in TTS engine (e.g., Google Text-to-Speech) to read summaries aloud. This is handled entirely by Android's system TTS service. We do not intercept, record, or transmit the audio or text processed by TTS.

7. Permissions Requested

• INTERNET — required to fetch subtitles from video platforms and download the AI model on first use.
• FOREGROUND_SERVICE / FOREGROUND_SERVICE_DATA_SYNC — keeps the AI model running in the foreground so summaries can complete while the app is in the background.
• POST_NOTIFICATIONS (Android 13+) — shows a persistent notification while a background summary is being generated. No notification data is collected.

8. In-App Purchases

GistAI offers an optional subscription for extended features. Purchases are processed by Google Play Billing. We do not receive or store your payment information. Transaction and subscription status are managed by Google Play in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy.

9. Children's Privacy

GistAI is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
